PosterThe beautiful water colour being received by our Chairman Jo Kirkham to advertise the 5th Rye Medieval Conference was created especially for Rye Museum by Jordan Seabrook, a student of Rye Studio School.  (Photo courtesy Elizabeth Howard Hill, another student at the Studio School).

Jordan has certainly captured the medieval theme: Note the Gothic shaped window; the doctor with leather cloak and ‘beak’ full of herbs trying to prevent contagion;   the table with two dead people – probably of the plague; a pot of herbs under the table; two rats — and a red apple.

The conference takes place on 18th October 2014 at Rye College and the theme  is Hazards of life and Causes of Death in Late Medieval England. Academics are to present papers on their latest research  at the Conference, before publication.  Delegates come from all over Britain and abroad, many  to stay in Rye for several days.
